01 / The short version
We process your document to summarize it — and don’t keep it afterward.
Docsum is a mobile application that turns the documents you choose into focused, AI-generated summaries. To do that, we temporarily process the document you upload and the summary instructions you select. Documents are not stored after summarization.
Documents are processed transiently
Your uploaded file is used to produce your summary and is not retained by Docsum after that processing is complete.
02 / What we process
The information you choose to send.
01Uploaded documents
The full content of a PDF, Word document, or text file that you select for summarization. Documents may include personal, financial, or other sensitive information.
02Summary parameters
The categories or topics you select — such as key takeaways, action items, financial figures, risks, or dates — to guide the summary.
03Technical information
If enabled for the app, we may receive limited technical or usage information such as device type, app version, crash logs, or analytics. We only collect this information when it is actually configured in the app.
03 / The flow
How a summary is made.
Choose a file
Select a PDF, Word, or text document from your device.
Set your focus
Pick the topics and parameters you want the summary to cover.
Get your summary
Docsum sends the content for processing and returns the result in the app.
04 / Service providers
A small number of services help Docsum work.
To generate summaries, our backend sends document content and your selected parameters to Google’s Gemini API. The backend infrastructure that handles this request is hosted by Vercel using Next.js serverless functions.
If Docsum uses Google’s Gemini API on a free tier, prompts and data sent to that API may be used by Google to improve its models under Google’s applicable terms. Paid tiers or Vertex AI may provide different data-use terms. Please avoid uploading information you are not authorized to share with these services.
05 / Retention & security
We keep the handoff brief.
Uploaded documents are not stored after summarization; they are processed transiently. As with any internet-connected service, data must travel between your device, Docsum’s backend, and the AI service to complete the request. We use reasonable technical measures to protect that transfer, but no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
06 / Your choices
You’re in control of what you upload.
- Only upload documents you have the right to share for processing.
- Do not upload highly sensitive information unless you are comfortable with the third-party processing described above.
- You can stop using Docsum at any time by removing the app from your device.
